Wednesday was the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America.
It was 18 years ago, our country was attacked. We lost over 3000 of our fellow citizens.
8 EMT/Paramedics
60 Police Officers
343 Firefighters
2997 Civilians
The Kennewick Police Department Honor Guard, the Benton County Sheriff's Office, and The Tri-Cities Professional Firefighter Honor Guard payed tribute, along with local firefighters and police officers. The 9/11 memorial was held at the Southridge Sports Complex, changing out the guard every half hour, ringing the bell at 9:59 and 10:28 in memory of the towers collapse.
Richland resident Julie Erickson said, "This is the first time I've actually come to a 9/11 event. I've always watched the memorial services on tv. I have an 18-year old son, who was 4-weeks old at the time that September 11th happened. Now that he's 18, it's a transformational time again. It hit me more this year, and I just wanted to be here for it."
An evening memorial service was also held at 6:30pm.
The City of Kennewick was one of a handful of communities in the country that received a section of steel from New York's World Trade Center.
