The man arrested for allegedly entering an 11-year old Richland girl's bedroom early Sunday morning made a first court appearance Thursday.

Court records show that Jordan C. K. Smith, 30, tried kidnapping the girl, putting a knife to her throat. The girl fought back, wrestling a knife away from Smith before he fled from the home on Ferrera Lane.

The suspect was cut in the struggle, and blood left at the scene was tested at the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab, leading detectives to Smith, who has several prior felony convictions.

Smith was arrested Wednesday night during a traffic stop less than 3 miles away from where the assault took place.

He's being held on $250,000 bail, charged with assault, burglary, and 1st degree kidnapping.
