Oregon State Police say an 18-year old woman from The Dalles died early Sunday morning in an accident on I-84.

Troopers and first responders were called out to westbound I-84 near the Rowena exit at around 6:00 AM Sunday for a report of a car that had crashed. The driver, Aileen Pineda-Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation found that a white 2011 Kia Rio sedan was traveling westbound when it left the roadway and went into a ditch before colliding into a tree. Pineda-Garcia was the only one in the car, and she was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators believe speed and weather likely played a role in the accident

Oregon State Police was assisted at the scene by Mid-Columbia Fire Department and ODOT.
