There have been nearly 90 crashes and eight deaths in Kittitas County on I-90 this year alone, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

That is more fatal accidents than the last three years combined and PEMCO Insurance Derek Wing says one reason is believed to be the construction projects in the area.

"With all those construction projects, I think there are probably a lot of people who are used to driving that stretch of road, feel like they know that area pretty well, but with some construction projects there is going to be some changes to the roads, so the best bet is to slow down and be safe," says Wing.

Statewide, deadly crash rates have slightly increased from 2015 to 2016 in the same period of time according to the Washington State Patrol with 114 crashes reported last year and 120 this year.
