TRI-CITIES, Wash.-A recall effort is now underway to remove Governor Jay Inslee from office over his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the charges is an alleged violation of the state's Emergency Powers Act, something lawmakers in Olympia tweaked in 2019.

"They expressly said he has a lot of authority granted to him, even from the Legislature, but if he violates the 1st Amendment's right to peaceably assemble, or freedom of speech, he can not do that", Pasco City Councilman Pete Serrano said.

Serrano authored three of the five charges to be filed Monday afternoon with the Secretary of State's Office.

"We do have an affidavit of an individual who sought permits from the Department of Enterprise Services to host rallies during COVID time and she was actually denied those permits", Serrano adds.
