Record-breaking snowfall in February and March forced schools in the Finley School District to close six days, and delay the start by two hours on 4 separate occasions.

The state-requires schools to provide 1,027 hours of instructional time

On Monday, March 18, the Finley School Board plans to discuss a proposal to update its calendar to meet the state requirements.  Finley’s proposal includes several suggested calendar:

  • Move the last day of school from June 7 to June 13
  • Reschedule high school graduation from May 31 to June 7
  • Early-release Wednesdays originally scheduled for May and possibly June (depending on any other delays) would become full school days.

The state requires schools to stay in session until at least June 14th before they'll be granted  a waiver for some of the required 180 days. However, the mandated number of instructional hours cannot be waived.

Parents and community members can attend the March 18th meeting starting at 7:00PM.
