Two adults and four kids are without a home Tuesday after a fire broke out at their two-story duplex in Hermiston.

Umatilla Firefighters say they were called to a home off the 900 block of Orchard Avenue in Hermiston around 11:52 p.m. They say flames were coming from the back of the home when they arrived. Firefighters were able to put out the fire but it caused extensive damage to the first floor and heat and smoke damage on the second. No one was hurt in the fire.

The Red Cross has been in touch with the family, but they have family and friends in town they were able to stay with.

Officials say the preliminary cause is a malfunctioned furnace.
