He did his job, but may have gotten a little too close to the evidence at one point.

Kennewick Police officials say K9 Bear accidentally ingested an unknown amount of methamphetamine Tuesday, January 14th, while assisting with a search warrant at a home in the 1700 block of W. 25th Ave.

K9 Bear helped detectives locate suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia hidden throughout the house as well as in a vehicle on the property.

According to the Kennewick Police Department, Bear somehow ingested an unknown amount of methamphetamine while working, though his handler wasn't aware of it at the time.

When Bear got home that night, his handler noticed that the K9 was behaving abnormally.

The handler administered a dose of nasal Narcan which had no affect, so he took Bear to Mid-Columbia Pet Emergency Service to be evaluated.

Bear's symptoms worsened, and a test confirmed that the dog had amphetamines in his system, and was suffering from high blood pressure, high temperature and muscle tremors.

The K9 was observed for 40 hours with the help of Mid-Columbia Pet Emergency Service and Vista Veterinary Hospital until it was determined that the symptoms subsided.

Officials say Bear has been cleared for full duty and returned to work Tuesday.
