What started out as a traffic stop ended with a man wanted on felony warrants being trapped in his car after it crashed and rolled as he tried fleeing from law enforcement in Richland Thursday morning.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Chris Thorson, a WSP trooper tried pulling over a sedan on Van Giesen at about 8:15am because neither the driver nor passenger were wearing seatbelts.

The car pulled over, but as the trooper approached the vehicle, took off again, side-swiping another car as he fled. The officer got back into his cruiser and pursued the suspect, who continued at speeds of between 80 and 100 miles per hour.

The vehicle drove onto Highway 240, and then lost control and rolled on the ramp to I-182.

Thorson says the driver, Clair H. Doyle, 46, West Richland, was trapped in the vehicle, and it took first responders about 15 minutes to remove him from the vehicle. He was taken to Kadlec with injuries.

The female passenger in the car, Jennifer Singrey, 40, West Richland, was not seriously hurt, and is cooperating with the investigation.

According to Thorson, Doyle had a felony Department of Corrections warrant out for his arrest. He faces additional felony charges for eluding police, along with a criminal charge for hit and run.
