Monday is slated to be the busiest day for the U.S. Postal Service with about 611 Million pieces of mail being processed around the country.

Washington State spokesman Ernie Swanson says Tuesday is the deadline to mail cards and letters to ensure delivery by Christmas.

"The 21st which would be Wednesday, that is the deadline for Priority Mail, which would be the normal priority, generally parcels and that kind of thing. If you are the ultimate procrastinator, this Friday the 23rd would be the deadline for priority mail express," says Swanson.

Tuesday is the deadline for cards and letters to be mailed to ensure delivery by Christmas.

Swanson adds, the USPS in Washington expects to process about 5-6 million pieces of mail Monday.

Monday is projected to be the busiest shipping day for the U.S. Postal Service, with seven million people expected to hit USPS.com according to ABC newsradio. The postal service anticipates it will deliver more than 30 million packages every day this week across the nation. Mondays are also the busiest shipping days for FedEx ahead of the holidays. The shipping giant expects to deliver 25 million packages a day, which is double a normal day.
