Police in Kennewick are looking for a man suspected of stabbing an elderly Kennewick woman in the parking lot of the Desert Villas apartments between S. Washington and S. Auburn Streets.

Officer Craig Hanson says the 70-year old victim had arrived at the apartment complex just before 5:00pm when she was approached by a Hispanic male who demanded money from her. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly stabbed the woman, then fled. Police haven't said whether the man got away with any of the victim's property.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, about 5'5", and was wearing a gray hoodie and gray sweatpants. Police haven't said what direction the man fled, but they did have a K9 at the scene to attempt to track down the suspect.

Hanson said the victim was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Still, he warned the community to be cautious, especially this time of year.

"This tends to be the time of year when a lot of our robberies happen. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen any time of the year, but it's important to be aware of your surroundings when you're out, watch for people who might be following you or keeping an eye on you. If the hair on the back of your neck says be cautious-- be cautious."

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact the Kennewick Police Department at 509-628-0333.
