A Richland High School teacher was arrested Wednesday, accused of inappropriate behavior toward at least one student at the school.

According to information from the Richland Police Department, officials at the Richland School District informed officers on November 13, 2019 about allegations of inappropriate contact between a 14-year old female student and the male teacher.

The teacher, identified by Richland Police as John Bittinger, 59, from West Richland, was placed on administrative leave.

Bittinger was booked into the Benton County Jail on suspicion of 3rd Degree Child Molestation and Indecent Liberties.  The charges stem from an incident which allegedly occurred on campus between Mr. Bittinger and a 14 year old juvenile.  Mr. Bittinger is employed as a teacher at Richland High School.
