A Kennewick woman escaped her home Monday morning after smoke alarms alerted her to a fire.

According to Cpt. Brian Ellis with the Kennewick Fire Department, the woman was in her room when the alarms sounded, and she managed to climb out of a bedroom window with her two dogs and call 911.

The woman's son also lives in the home at 22 N. Lyle St., but was gone at the time the fire started shortly after 8:00am.

Ellis said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen, and didn't spread beyond the kitchen.

The actual cause is under investigation.
