PASCO, Wash.-- Several businesses closed shop over the weekend due to the high concentration of smoke particulates in the region.

As the new work week begins, several more businesses plan to stay closed on Monday, and several schools have also decided to close for the day.

We will continue to update this list as more information becomes available.

SCHOOLS

Bethlehem Lutheran School: No in-person instruction for Preschool-4th grade. Eagles Nest closed. 5th-8th grade will continue with online/distance learning.

College Place Sch. Dist.: Onsite student programs, Lifeskills, Preschool, Learning Labs and Grab and Go Meal Services are canceled. Remote online learning will continue at 9:00am.

Kennewick School District: Due to the hazardous air quality, there will be no on-site remote learning support or on-site Tier 3 services for students at schools. Monday will be a remote learning day for all students. -There will be no YMCA on-site child care. There will be no K-2 packet pick-up from bus stops. K-2 packet pick-up is now scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, assuming that the air quality is safe. -There will be no bus stop meal service. Free meals will be available through drive-up service for pick-up from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in front of the following schools: Amistad, Amon Creek, Eastgate, Fuerza, Westgate, Chinook, Desert Hills, Highlands, Horse Heaven Hills, Park, Kamiakin, and Southridge. Please help protect others by wearing a face mask when picking up food.

Kingspoint Christian School: Closed. No Extended Day Program.

Pasco School District: Changes are in place for meal distribution for Monday, September 14. Students will come indoors to pick up their meals. Face coverings will be required when picking up meals. Students and families are encouraged to wear masks as they travel to the schools to pick up meals. The meal scheduled will be shortened to limit student exposure to the hazardous air conditions. Meals will be available for pick-up at the following times:

  • Elementary Schools: 12:00 to 1:00pm
  • Middle Schools: 12:30 to 1:30pm
  • High Schools: 12:00 to 1:00pm

School bus meal delivery will continue. Students are encouraged to wear masks and limit their time outside. These procedures will remain in place until further notice. Air quality conditions will be monitored daily. 

Paterson School District: Closed. All classes will be held remotely. Students should log into their classes.

Riverside Christian School: Closed.

Royal Schools: Closed.

St. Joseph's School Kennewick: Online classes only. Preschool and Childcare closed due to air quality. 

EMPLOYERS

Energy Northwest: All non-essential personnel are to stay home on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020. Training is considered non-essential. Personnel supporting maintenance activities for the CCH-CR-1B and RCIC maintenance window are considered ESSENTIAL personnel.  Only essential Energy Northwest employees should report at their normally-scheduled shift time. Managers and supervisors, refer to GBP-HR-10, Work Schedules and Telecommuting: Including Adverse Conditions for more information.

Hanford: Non-essential Hanford employees North of the Wye Barricade and South of the Wye Barricade, including Richland, should adhere to the following schedule: Swing and graveyard shifts: have been CANCELLED for tonight Sunday, September 13th. Day shift: do not report to work Monday, September 14th. Essential employees needed to maintain minimum safe operations are to follow their normal work schedule. Employees who are teleworking, or have been directed to telework, should continue to do so. All Federal, contractor, sub-contractor and craft employees who do not telework or are unable to telework, unless contacted by their supervisor, should not report for work.
