RICHLAND, Wash.-- The Legislature has tasked the Washington State Department of Commerce with providing an assessment of the unmet health care needs of Hanford workers in order to develop recommendations for meeting those needs.

The Hanford Healthy Energy Workers Board has put together an online survey to collect information directly from workers.

"Hanford is a very unique site, and with the uniqueness of that site and the work that goes on there, additionally there's also unique needs for the workforce out there," said Nick Bumpaous, President of the Central Washington Building and Construction Trades Council and member of the Hanford Healthy Energy Workers Board. "What we really want to look at is what resources are available or need to be made available to the workforce as far as medical care. We're talking short-term, long-term, preventative-- you name it."

The board is also reaching out to local medical providers to find out what resources are being used, and to what degree.

The workers board must submit its report to the legislature by June 1, 2021.

The online survey is available through midnight Sunday, January 17, 2021.
