The use of single-use plastic bags banned starting next year

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed many bills into law Wednesday afternoon. Senate Bill 5323 was signed into law. This bill will ban the use of single-use plastic bags, starting January 1, 2021

The bill also includes an 8-cent fee for every paper bag requested and an 8-cent fee for every reusable plastic bag that a customer uses. Fees for reusable plastic bags go up to 12 cents in 2026.

The lawmaker's goal is to reduce plastic waste produced by Washington consumers.
