Two people were taken to the hospital with injuries after a fire broke out at a home in Pasco late Saturday night.

Pasco Deputy Fire Chief Ed Dunbar says they're not sure how many people were inside the home in the 900 block of W. Opal when it was reported at about 11:35pm.

When first responders arrived, they found flames coming out of the roof off the home, and one man with burns on his arms.

He was taken to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.

Another person, believed to be the first man's son, was also taken to the hospital to be treated for possible smoke inhalation.

A dog also managed to escape without injury, and wandered about the front yard greeting fire fighters before a neighbor stepped in to help.

Dunbar says it's unclear how the fire started .

"There are some questions about cause and origin of the fire that we're looking into with Pasco PD right now. We had some reports of something not quite right going on when we were arriving on scene, but we're still trying to sort that out."

He said there were early reports that the blaze might have started outside of the home.

"But that's not consistent with what I'm seeing walking around. So it looks like it was on the inside."

The fire was limited to one side of the house, and also got into the attic, damaging about 50% of the structure.

Pasco utility crews arrived on the scene to shut off power to the home.

Crews remained on the scene for a couple of hours checking for hotspots.
