Two people are recovering from wounds after a shooting in Toppenish Monday evening.

According to a press release from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers received a call at about 6:20pm about a possible shooting victim in the 900 block of W. 1st Ave. in Toppenish.

Officers with the Toppenish Police Department and Tribal Police Department arrived in the area where they located a single gunshot would victim and transported them to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, officers had spotted a vehicle speeding from the area, and conducted a high risk traffic stop. Several subjects were detained for questioning, and a suspect was identified.

A few hours later, the Yakima County Sheriff's Office received a call from a hospital reporting that a second gunshot victim had arrived, possibly related to the previous incident.

After a deputy interviewed the victim, investigators determined that both victims were injured in the same incident.

Deputies say a Christian Stanley Gonzalez, 26, Grandview, was booked into the Yakima County Jail for unlawful possession of a firearm, drive by shooting, and 2 counts of first degree assault.

Both shooting victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

Two other people in Gonzalez's vehicle were booked on outstanding warrants.
