Benton County Fire District 4 is made up of mostly volunteer firefighters, and they expect to be busy this summer.

"It’s very dry here and there are areas that are in a drought, so we have already had several fires in the area and we expect that to continue as it gets dryer and hotter," said Capt. Bonnie Benitz.

She told our news partners at KEPR Action News that they are in need of more people who are willing to volunteer due to red flag warnings and an increase in fire danger.

"Whether people are interested in assisting as a firefighter, or medical services,” said Benitz “we have folks that come out and volunteer to bring firefighters water and food and make sure their needs are being met."

Benton County Fire District #4 provides fire and emergency services to 18,000 residents over 52 square miles in and around  West Richland.
