So far, the voluntary water reduction schedule put in place by the Kennewick Irrigation District seems to be working, so managers at the utility plan to keep it in place.

Last month, KID customers were asked to water just two days a week, for thirty minutes each watering,

"It's taken a couple of weeks for the voluntary schedule to really see success, but so far, so good," said Jason McShane, Engineering and Operations Manager during KID's regular meeting Tuesday morning. "With the latest update from the Bureau of Reclamation last week the increased the percentage (of water) available."

That increase shows that 69% of water allotments will be available this season, up from 67%.

"We're not expecting mandatory rations as of now," McShane said. "Assuming everything holds the way it is, everything should be fine. If we see three weeks in a row of 105 degrees then we may have to revisit it."

KID customers are asked to continue watering on the restricted schedule on a voluntary basis:
